The harvest is underway at community gardens throughout Plymouth.
The meaty tomatoes are still mostly green, but the little guys are ready for the picking at community gardens across town.
And that’s just what children in the Recreation Department’s preschool program did Monday, as Healthy Plymouth teamed with Terra Cura Inc. to promote healthy living options at even the youngest ages.
After children collected a bounty of cherry and grape tomatoes, squash and herbs from the garden outside Nathaniel Morton Elementary School, Marcia Richards, a dietician at BID-Plymouth hospital, showed them how to turn it all into a delicious antipasto zoodle salad.
The garden-to-table lesson is one of four community events sponsored by South Shore Community Partners in Prevention to engage the community with the school gardens and the produce that they yield, to promote healthy eating habits.
